My Fav Liquid Eyeliners

I previoulsy mentioned in one of my posts that I have been using the Maybelline Liner Express liquid eyeliner for years and would recommend it to anyone who loves liquid eyeliners. I'm not sure whether it is just me and my sensitive skin but everytime I use any other high street brand of liquid eyeliner my eyelids always sting, so after testing different high street brands a while ago I realised that the Maybelline Liner Express was the best for my sensitive eyes and for its precision.

I have become so used to wearing liquid eyeliner as part of my daily routine that I actually feel naked if I dont have it on. So when my Maybelline eyeliner finished whilst on holiday I actually was not a happy person for a few days (for some weird reason they dont sell this particular eyeliner in America).  I even tried to use my sisters Rimmel Glam Eyes liquid eyeliner but that just ended up stinging my eyelids so I knew I had to go to MAC for their Fluidline Eyeliner, which I first set eyes on when a make up artist I was assisting used it. MACs Fluidline eyeliner is different to other liquid eyeliners as it is of a gel consistency and comes in a small pot.

I have been using the MAC Fluidline very regularly since buying it in October and I can defiately say its great & it doesnt budge once on either. I also use it for a simple daytime look as well as for evenings which I dont usually do with Maybelline eyeliner. However, I still find the Maybelline eyeliner best for everyday wear as I can put it on in a matter of seconds in comparison to MACs Fluidline.

New Year's Resolutions 2010

Source: Google

As the year is slowly drawing to a close I thought i'd share with you guys my New Year's Resolutions - barring a few personal things. I think the last time I actually took the time out to write one was in my early years at secondary school but being the person I am I never  made it a month into the New Year before breaking them all. Not wanting to follow tradition, I am going to try my best to see it through:
  • Stop hoarding my clothes. I have a ridiculous amount of clothing and I am running out of storage space even with an extra large wardrobe + a medium sized one I still have no space. (Can you imagine I still manage to feel I have nothing to wear...everyday?) I need to accept the fact that if I havent worn it in over 3 yrs I probably will never wear it again. Which leads to my next point...
  • Stop buying unessecary items of clothing, shoes, beauty products (ok maybe not beauty products lol). Even if they are on SALE!!! (It is not considered a baragin when 2 yrs later they still have the tags on and I have resorted to giving them to charity shops brand new)
  • Start using cash. I really hate having cash on me as I like the convenience of using my card everywhere. Therefore, I never really take into consideration the amount of money I am actually spending as I cannot physically see the money. I am sure if I started using cash for large payments it would take me more than a second to make that decision to purchase.
  • Eat more healthy foods & stop skipping meals. I have a tendancy to sometimes forget to eat (dont ask how) and I only remember/bother to do something about it when I have a raging headache and my stomach starts talking to me but, by then its too late and the damage has already been done. I also have a big weakness for Chinese takeaway food and I could live off it forever but seeing as it is mostly drenched in oil, I think need to slowly give it up.
Looking at this list I think I should have titled it: Confessions of a Shopaholic rather than New Year's Resolutions ;-) I have kept the list short so that it could be more achievable than having a long list of things I know I will never adhere to. Will let you know how I get on with my resoulutions.

"You're a Doll" Blog Award

Yesterday I recieved a "You're a Doll" blog award from Chole at ♥Make-Up Princess♥, considering my blog is quite new I am very grateful of this award and hope that everyone who has taken time out to read my blog  enjoys it. Now I only discovered Chloe's blog 2 days ago but I really like it and she also did a Make-Up artist course at the same school i'm enrolled at, so check out her blog.

 You're A Doll Award!!

If you are awarded:

1. Remember to link back to the person who awarded you!
2. Select 5 more bloggers that you think are dolls and link them at the bottom.
3. Tell us about a character from a book/movie that you're most like.
4. Post the picture and title on your blog permanently if you'd like!

The lovely bloggers I have chosen are:

1. Andree Marie @ Andreemarie86
2. Suzi @ Style Suzi
3. Christiana @ Christiana Rants
4. Joyful & Trina @ Eternally Fixated
5. Ashwini @ Clearly Beautiful

If I were to compare myself to a character from a Movie/TV Series it would be a mixture of Miranda and Carrie from Sex & The City. This is because I like fashion like Carrie but probably cant pull off the things she does and I can be a bit cynical/pessimistic at times like Miranda.

P.S.  my mum loved the perfumes my sister and I got her from  Elizabeth Arden they were both right up her street and she also loved the massive gift bag it came with too and my sister loved the money I got her LOL....All I need to do is give my friend her pressies this week and I will officially be over with Christmas Yay!!

Nail Colour of the Week & Christmas Make Up

This week I decided to bring out my fav O.P.I colour - Got a Date To-Knight. Im not usually a fan of pink things but I do like pink lips & nails. This colour is not like any other pink polish I have as it has a sheer undertone to it which makes it very soft and only needs 2-3 coats depending on how sheer you want it. I actually first saw this colour on a sales assistant when I was in San Diego and I had to have it!!! So after trying to re-jog her memory for the exact colour name and then finally giving me directions to the shop where she got it from...I found it!!

Whilst we were waiting for Christmas dinner I decided to experiment with some make up on my little sister, here are the pics....

Eyes
UDPP
Mac Eyeshadow - Nocturnelle
Mac Eyeshadow - Amber Lights
Sleek Eyeshadow Palette - Graphite
MAC Fluidline - Blactrack

Last Minute Christmas Shopping

True to fashion I ended up doing my Christmas shopping lastminute again!!! Maybe it's just me but Christmas really doesn't excite me as it used to, so I always end up doing anything Christmas related at the very lastminute possible. Side bar: Even though I do my shopping late...I always put alot thought and research into the gifts I get lol.

This year my sister and I tried to step out of the box and get my mum something different to perfume but after 2 shopping trips with my younger sister we realised that she is very fussy and probably wont use anything we get her thats different from the norm..... so long story short we both ended up getting her perfume, might I add she also has a wierd taste when it comes to fragrances so that in itself was another task we had to overcome. Going into every department store on Oxford Street smelling nearly every fragrance available was not an easy task especially considering the fragances I think are "smelly" will be the ones she will love & vice versa. So after much contemplation we got her some stuff from Elizabeth Arden which would usually not be my first choice but hey! its not for me.

After we got my mums present everyone else's fell into place and I can now say I am finally done with my christmas shopping and from now on all purchases will be for ME!!! Thank God!! As it hurts to buy friends & family presents that I want to keep for myself.

MAC Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15

Whilst away on my 5 week holiday to California I made one of many visits to the MAC counter where I ended up purchasing the Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15 - Deep Dark. This is because I dont like wearing foundation on a daily basis and because I dont think my skins needs it either. Two months later...and I can definately say this has become one of my favourite products, mainly because it is sooo light on my skin and slightly tinted which helps to even out my skin tone without feeling or looking like a foundation whilst moisturising my skin at the same time.

I would definately reccommend this product to anyone who dislikes wearing foundations but want to add a little something extra to their make up routine. However, please note this product only comes in five shades: Light, Medium, Medium Dark, Dark and Deep Dark - which does not accomodate the darker skin tones out there as I use the darkest shade (Deep Dark)

Nail Colour of the week

My current nail colour for the week is: Sea? I Told You by O.P.I. This is the first time I have worn this colour but I am liking it already as the aqua colour has a nice shimmer to it and it was a bargain at $6 compared to £10 (bought whilst on holiday).

Stuff I bought last week

This Sunday I went up West to do a little bit of shopping with a friend and her lil cousin but true to fashion we got there so late that we only made it into a few stores before the shops started to close down whilst we were inside. Not naming any names but I cant believe Selfridges had the audacity to close whilst I was at the MAC counter. (I guess it was for my own good as I didnt get all the other things I have my eye on)

Here's what I got:
  • MAC Lipstick - Half n Half
  • Maybelline Liner Express Eyeliner (I luv this and I have been using it everyday for years now)
  • Sleek Lip Tint - Chocolate Kiss (I have no intention of using this for myself due to allergies I have, but thought it would be good to use on other people - I like the smell too)
  • Trapper hat from h&m - Mens Dept (which i'm in luuurvvve with, its sooo warm)
  • A Plain blue basic mens Tee for myself from h&m

I will be making another shopping trip this week as I didnt get much and I need to finally get off my butt and get some xmas pressies, which I have to admit I hate doing because everything I get for people I always want to keep for myself....I guess it's a good indicator of how good I am at getting pressies for people?? lol

Aunty gets her make up done

So after I did my friend Marie's make up last week her mother/my aunty (If your african you will understand lol) asked me to do her make up for her on saturday for an event she was going to. Now I must admitt I was excited to do this as the more practice I get the better I hope to become.

I was very pleased with the outcome as my biggest fear was that she may not have liked it but, after I had a catwalk show of her outfit she planned on wearing I decided to keep it simple but still bring a little attention to her eyes as she loves make up me but doesnt try different things.  When aunty came back from her event she said she loved her make up and seemed very pleased with it which was definately a confidence boost for me.

    My friend/Model for the Weekend

This weekend ended up being very girly for me as my friend came round for a few days where we did nothing but watch dvds, eat and do each others hair - which for me is a biggie as I am not great at doing weaves but for my 2nd attempt im very happy with my work (She's teaching me well). Anyway on the last day of her looong visit she allowed me to use her as my model to try out some make up on her for a work xmas dinner she was going to.

For the first look I tried to go for a slightly dark/smokey effect on her eyes:

Before - (lovin the nightie lol)

    After

    Face
MAC Studio Finish Concealer - NW50
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit - Chestnut
Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick - Walnut
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Loose Powder - Tinted
MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush - Ambering Rose
    Eyes
Bodyshop Brow Liner Kit - Black
    Sleek Eyeshadow Palette - Storm
    MAC Fluidline - Blacktrack
    MAC Eyeshadow - Carbon
    Bourjois Liner Effect Mascara
    Lips
    Maybelline Lipstick - Pink Champagne

For my second attempt we decided to make it less dark and make it a bit more shimmery as she didnt want anything too extravagant for the dinner she was going to.

    Sleek Eyeshadow Palette Trials

As promised here are the pics from my make up trials with the Sleek eyeshadow palettes I bought last week.

I used the Graphite palette for a smokey look as it had the darker shades, which I like alot as the colours stand out. (P.S. I apologise for my unruly eyebrows its been a while since I got them threaded lol).

Before - (excuse my tired face)

     After

    Products used:
    Face
    MAC Select Cover-UP Conclear - NW45 & NC50
MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF 15 Foundation - NC50
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Loose Powder - Tinted
    MAC Blush - Raizin
    Eyes
Bodyshop Brow Liner Kit - Brown/Black
    Sleek Eyeshadow Palette - Graphite
    MAC Eyeshadow - Carbon
    MAC Fluidline Eyeliner - Blacktrack
    Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara
    Lips
MAC Lipgelee Lipgloss - Slicked Pink

I also used the Storm palette the next day for a casual look as it had the warmer gold/bronze colours I usually go for my everday look.....

    Products used:
    Face
    MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer - NC 50
MAC Studio Moisture Tint SPF 15 - Deep Dark
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder - Dark
    Bourjois Blush - Rose
    Eyes
Bodyshop Brow Liner Kit - Brown/Black
    Sleek Eyeshadow Palette - Storm
    MAC Fluidline Eyeliner - Blacktrack
    MAC Eye Kohl - Smolder
    MAC Eyeshadow - Carbon
    Maybelline Mascara
    Lips
    MAC Lipstick - Speed Dial
MAC Lipgelee Lipgloss - Slicked Pink

My final verdict is I will definately be using these eyeshadow palettes regularly as the qualityof the eyeshadows are great for the price. My only negative will be that the eyeshadows do flake a little bit but if you are careful when using them you shouldn't get too much of the product on your face :-)

    A Pleasant Surprise from Sleek

Sooo whilst out shopping for my usual beauty/hair products this week I decided to take a look at the Sleek make-up stand in Superdrug's for the first time. Considering the fact that I have hated this brand for yeeaars I dont why I did, but to my surprise I was drawn to their Mineral Based Eyeshadow Palettes. I have seen a few reviews about the brand before but I have always DISLIKED Sleek as I always remember seeing the products in Afro-Caribbean hair shops being displayed disgustingly and black women looking like they've been 'Tangoed' whilst wearing their foundations.

Anyway.... after playing about (or should I say testing) the eyeshadow colours on my skin I decided to buy two palettes at £4.99 each why not??....(even if they end up being rubbish its still cheap!)

    Heres what they look like....

    Graphite 573

    Storm 578

I have already used the Grpahite palette and I must admit I am impressed with the way the colours stand out on my skin . I will post pics of my trials once I have used the Storm palette.

    My 1st Post Yay!!!

Hey!! welcome to my virtual space.

For those who know me will know that I love both Fashion & Make-Up and all that revolves around it, so after much contemplation i've decided to document my likes and dislikes for all to see. I am not a professional by any means but I looooove make-up (especially MAC products) so I will also be posting some of my work on here too and will appreciate any feedback be it good or bad.

Please bare with me as I have not done this before and I am trying to get to grips with the blogging world :-)

    Henessy xoxo
